OVERVIEW
This class pays homage to the early 90’s racing period of monster truck racing as leaf-sprung suspension design and speed began to increase and evolve while the trucks became more and more capable. Vehicles are intended to resemble “Stage 2.5” monster trucks in action and R/C products with similar design, performance and limitations in relation to the full scale counterparts.
STAGE 2
Stage 2 retro trucks without leaf springs are allowed to race in this class but encourage you to build a leaf spring truck.
BODY
Classically styled bodies only fitting to the time-period being represented are preferred. Generally, 1997 and earlier production vehicle based bodies. 3-D body components fitting the time period may be considered though require approval. Bodies outside of the stated time period may be accepted, with approval, if fitting of the “spirit” of the class based on interpretation of officials. Vehicles are not required to be a replica, though vehicle should be period and “spirit” appropriate.
CHASSIS
Any chassis fitting in the basic spirit of the stage 2.5 leaf sprung style class with a straight rail style frame or stock C-style frame (i.e. no tube frames) are legal. Any material composition is permitted. Diaz Designs, Freestyle R/C Axis, BlackMarket R/C ShaftSquatch Stage 1 and Stage 2, JConcepts Reactor are all examples of legal chassis. Leaf Spring kits are available for Tamiya Clodbusters as well.
SUSPENSION
Suspension must be leaf spring based with the leaf springs locating the axle on each “corner” of the vehicle. Ladder bar, parallel 4-link, triangulated 4-link and 3-link setups are permitted. Leaf spring “packs” must have a minimum of two leafs in each pack. Leafs may be composed of any solid material.
